Heribert von Köln was a German bishop and saint who lived during the late 10th and early 11th centuries. He served as the Archbishop of Köln from 999 to 1021 and was known for his commitment to religious, political, and social causes.

Heribert was born around 970 to a noble family in the German town of Worms. He received his early education at the cathedral school of Worms before being sent to the court of Emperor Otto III, where he served as a chaplain and completed his education.

In 999, Heribert was appointed as the Archbishop of Cologne by Emperor Otto III. He worked to restore monastic discipline and supported the founding of new monastic communities, including the famous abbey of Deutz.

Heribert was a trusted advisor to both Emperor Otto III. and his successor, Emperor Henry II. He played a crucial role in the negotiation of peace between the empire and the Polish Duke Bolesław I. the Brave in 1018.

Social Commitment:

Heribert was known for his dedication to social causes,and was particularly committed to the establishment and support of hospitals and other charitable institutions.

Heribert died in 1021. In recognition of his piety, spiritual leadership, and contributions to the church, he was canonized as a saint in 1074 by Pope Gregory VII.
