Wolfgang Eckert is a German sculptor who completed an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor from 1980 to 1983 and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1989 to 1995. He models figurative sculptures in clay and casts them in concrete, occasionally in bronze. In addition, he creates sculptural works with architectural references, mainly concerned with the design of liturgical objects in church interiors, using various materials, such as stone, bronze, concrete, and CNC-controlled water jet techniques.
Eckert has created a portrait cycle and sculpted portraits of people like Marcel Reich-Ranicki and Pope Benedict XVI, among others. He built a studio outside Furtwangen in 1995, where he lives with his wife, the painter Julia Elsässer-Eckert.
