Georg Mattes, born in 1874 in Nürnberg, was a German sculptor. His works appear in the interiors of several churches in Munich, including the Holy Spirit Church at Viktualienmarkt, the Protestant Ascension Church in Pasing, where his baptismal font, Apostles Peter, and Paul reside, and the Ludwig Church in Schwabing. Beyond religious venues, his sculptures can be found in schools, hospitals, museums, and the Obermenzinger cemetery. Mattes also shared his expertise as a professor of sculpture at the Munich Art Academy. He died in 1942, and his final resting place is in the cemetery of St. Severin Church in Passau-Innstadt.
