Ferdinand Müller, who was born in 1809 in Meiningen, began his artistic career under the guidance of his father, Christian Müller, who worked as the court sculptor. Later on, he received formal training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, studying in the studio of Ludwig Schwanthaler starting in 1830.
From 1840 until his death, Müller held the prestigious position of court sculptor for Saxe-Meiningen, serving under the reigns of Dukes Bernhard II and Georg II. During this period, he took part in significant projects within the newly constructed Landsberg Palace in Meiningen. His contributions involved designing various areas such as the Knights' Hall, the Autograph Room, and the Luther Room. After these initial endeavors, Müller shifted his artistic focus towards creating monuments, busts, statues, and reliefs. These works showcased a combination of Classical and Romantic styles, reflecting the prevailing artistic trends of that time.
