Uwe Spiekermann was born in 1963 in Hannover as the son of a stone sculptor. He had just finished his own stone sculpting apprenticeship when he took over his late father's stonemasonry business at the mere age of 21. Despite the substantial workload and economic responsibility, he managed to forge ahead with his artistic development.

Spiekermann is known for his beautiful tomb designs, which have won him several design awards. In 2019, he crafted the bust of Käthe Kollwitz for Walhalla.
