Johann Brunner is a German artist born into a family of craftsmen and farmers. He began his apprenticeship as a mosaicist in 1980 and participated in commissioned works, made copies of classical figural mosaics, executed contemporary mosaic patterns, and worked on stained-glass windows installations. He took up studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and earned his diploma in 1989. Brunner received a scholarship in 1990 and became a freelance sculptor and painter.
He devoted himself to designing liturgical furnishings and equipment, reconstructing wall paintings, and designing church windows. Brunner was involved in the restoration of the Walburgis Chapel and the Romanesque church of St. Ulrich. He designed and executed the glass panes of the three colored windows of the apse of the Romanesque church of St. Ulrich and created the altar for the pilgrimage church of St. Valentin.
